The World Returns to Muncie for POWERMAN MUNCIE

Steve and Tammy Tomboni, owners of Muncie Multi-Sport, Inc., announce the signing of the contract to host Powerman Muncie, a duathlon event that includes the multi-sporting races consisting of run/bike/run in October 2010.

Powerman Muncie will be held at Prairie Creek Reservoir in Muncie, Indiana, USA on October 2, 2010. It has been the race site for over 30 years for the Muncie Endurathon and other multi-sports events. Muncie has served as host of many national championships and the ITU Long Course World Championships in 1996.

“After our first conversation with Powerman it was obvious to both parties that Muncie would be an outstanding location for this event. Our international reputation after the 1996 event was awesome,” noted Steve Tomboni, CEO of Muncie Multi-Sport. “It is one of the best venues in America for this type of race. Prairie Creek is an outstanding course that features the perfect 20k lap around the lake with rolling hills and is a challenging run course considered by many to be very difficult.”

Powerman International and Muncie Multi-Sport, Inc. will invite all of the top 10 rated men and women duathletes globally to race in a series of events which will include three duathlons with distances of 5k-run/20k-bike/5k-run, 10k-run/40k-bike/10k-run and the Powerman distance of 10k-run/60k-bike/10k-run. In addition, there will be a 5k/10k run.

The Powerman Muncie event will be the final event for the Muncie Multi-Sport company in 2010. It will be preceded by a series of races that include the Muncie May Duathlon on May 15th followed by triathlon, duathlon and 5k/10k run events scheduled for June 12th, August 7th and September 4th. Prairie Creek Reservoir will be the site for all of these events.

“Powerman International, the international governing organization for duathlon events, would like to welcome Powerman Muncie, produced by Muncie Multi-Sport, Inc., to the family of Powerman events held across the world and in the United States,” stated John Raadschelders, president of the International Powerman Association. president of the International Powermand association: We are thrilled that Steven Tomboni(MMSI) and the beautiful town, Muncie, will be part of the Powerman World series from 2010. Muncie has a strong background in organizing international sport events. Very important as well is that the community of Muncie showed in the past that they love multi-sports. I am sure: “ Powerman Muncie will be seen, world wide, as the Powerman duathlon happening you have to be at.”

“Muncie Multi-Sport is proud to have Powerman International join the family of events planned in Muncie for the spring, summer and fall of 2010,” said Tammy Tomboni, co-owner of Muncie Multi-Sport, Inc. “We are excited to once again invite athletes from across the globe to Muncie for Powerman. Our community came together as never before in 1996 and the display of hoosier hospitality was indeed remembered by all the athletes who attended.” The event was awarded the 1996 USA and International Race of the Year by the ITU.

The field for the Powerman Muncie event will be limited to the first 800 duathletes registered. Steve Tomboni explained, “We will keep the first year of Powerman Muncie limited to measure the impact of that many athletes on the course and review all safety measures before allowing the field to grow in the coming years of our contract with Powerman International.” That contract extends through the events scheduled for 2012.

Muncie Multi-Sport plans to have a week long series of events that will include a sports equipment trade show on October 1st at the Horizon Convention Center. Powerman Muncie on Saturday will feature the non professional events starting at 8am and the professional event beginning at 1pm. Tentative plans call for a PowerKids duathlon for ages 8-14 on Sunday. The start and finish for Powerman Muncie 2010 and all of the other Muncie Multi-Sport events will be Prairie Creek Reservoir.

The Powerman Muncie events join Powerman Alabama and Powerman Florida as the only other Powerman sanctioned events in the USA for 2010. Steve Tomboni competed in three Powerman Alabama events in the past and found the events quite challenging. Tammy Tomboni is scheduled to compete in the 2010 Powerman Alabama event.
